John’s commitment to public service is exemplified by his extensive involvement in the Medina community.
For 27 years, he has served on Medina City Council, demonstrating unwavering dedication to local governance. His leadership is further highlighted by his 13-year tenure as Council President, during which he has guided the city through numerous critical decisions. As Chair of the Council Finance Committee, he has played a pivotal role in ensuring responsible fiscal management of your tax dollars. He has also contributed significantly to the city's growth and development through his membership on the Economic Development and Business Development Committees, and by chairing the Strategic Plan Advisory Committee. His commitment to regional collaboration is evident in his board membership on the Joint Economic Development District (Medina/Montville).
Beyond his city council duties, John has demonstrated a deep commitment to education and youth development. He served on the Buckeye Education Foundation and remains actively involved in 4-H and FFA. He currently chairs the Buckeye School District Hall of Fame selection committee, recognizing and honoring outstanding contributions to the school community. Additionally, he has shared his athletic expertise by volunteering as a pole vault coach for both Buckeye and Medina High School track programs. His dedication to community leadership is further underscored by his graduation from Leadership Medina.

Coyne, III has shown leadership and vision with many initiatives over his career that help keep your taxes low, improve City services to its residents, keep and attract jobs, generate revenue for the City, engage with the residents, and maintain our historic, small town atmosphere.
INITIATIVES WHILE ON COUNCIL
Architect of fiscally conservative five-year budget plan that includes the concept of carryforward funds saving the City of Medina and its taxpayers millions of dollars
Initiated the Christmas lighting of Medina’s historic square during the Candlelight Walk
Initiated City Ward meetings to improve communication with addressing City resident concerns
Led effort to form Joint Economic Development Districts (JEDDs) in Montville and Lafayette Townships to help keep City taxes low
Led effort to form Cooperative Economic Development Agreement with York Township to encourage economic development to benefit both the City of Medina and York Township
Led effort to construct parking deck behind the Medina County Court building to ensure the County Courts stayed on Medina’s historic square
Architect of the plan to finance the City Hall parking deck construction through the creation of TIF (Tax Increment Financing), saving the city tax dollars
Identified land to locate public restrooms on Medina’s historic square, to better serve the community
Spearheaded the initiative to install center islands on Rt. 42's shopping district, aiming to optimize traffic control and beautify the corridor
Purchased iPads for council, saving money and increasing efficiency
Helped negotiate consortium agreement with Rural Lorain County Water Authority and City of Avon Lake to ensure adequate water supply to City of Medina from Lake Erie
What I will do as mayor
Protect, preserve, and promote our city’s historical, small-town atmosphere
Manage our tax dollars in a fiscally conservative manner
Collaborate with surrounding communities and other governmental entities to provide exceptional services to our residents and region while keeping our tax burden low
Grow industrial and commercial tax base to lessen tax burden on our residents
Ensure that Medina is welcoming to all residents, businesses, and visitors
Ensure that Medina is a safe place to work, visit, live and raise a family
Work with locally owned and operated businesses to address concerns
Work hard and smart to keep our taxes low and keep our level of services high for our residents
Strengthen our safety services—Police, Fire, and LST
Common sense governing to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our residents
Prepare for artificial intelligence incorporation into city functions to provide more cost-effective and efficient services to our residents
Maximize the value of our assets like our city-owned Airport and Rail Line
Continue infrastructure replacement plan for our streets, water lines, sewer lines, and catch basins
Enhance our parks and recreation areas throughout Medina
